David McElroy and Kevin May recently sat down (virtually, over Zoom, of course) with the wonderful Permanent Record Podcast hosts.
They had a long discussion about the background to the book, how it all came together and some of the nuggets they uncovered and lots of stuff about ‘Violator’ and Depeche Mode generally.
They also face a quick-fire round of questions about Depeche Mode and ‘Violator’ at the end!
Hosts Sarah and Brian Linnen have discussed ‘Violator’ on the show previously, during their detailed breakdown of the album over four episodes (part one, part two, part three and part four) in 2020.
You can also check out their other Depeche Mode-related shows here. Other bands or artists getting the Permanent Record Podcast analysis by the duo include The Cure, David Bowie, Erasure, Howard Jones, New Order, Pet Shop Boys and Tears For Fears.
Permanent Record Podcast is available on all the usual places where you listen to podcasts, such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify. Please subscribe to listen to any of the previous 146 shows before their interview about ‘Halo’.
In the meantime, here’s episode 147 and the interview with David and Kevin, embedded below.
About the Permanent Record Podcast:
“Brian and Sarah are your hosts for this look back at albums from the New Wave and Classic Rock genres– albums which have earned a permanent spot in their record collection. The hosts start the discussion with a history of the album, followed by their personal history with it. Over the course of two episodes, they do a track-by-track review of the album and the videos that accompany the singles. They conclude by each giving the album a final review and rating of zero to 100 record adapters. Join Brian and Sarah in this fun look back at the hits– along with some misses– of the 70s and 80s!”
