An official Personal Jesus video missing a vital ingredient: Depeche Mode

In May 2011, a reworked Personal Jesus was put out as a single to coincide with the release of the Remixes 2: 81-11 collection.

The Stargate Mix, created by a Norwegian production duo of the same name, fronted a selection of new versions of Personal Jesus, including the popular club version by Eric Prydz.

According to the handy DM Classic Photos and Videos Facebook Group (application required), filming for a brand new video to accompany the single took place during the second week of March 2011, in the Czech Republic.

Depeche Mode did not take part, but the creators turned to familiar themes from previous videos, not least the Anton Corbijn-directed Condemnation from 1993.

Some have likened it to a segment from the terrible Nicolas Cage movieSeason of the Witch, which was released a few months before (one fan even dubbed a clip of the film with the new version of Personal Jesus).

But take any sequence from a movie about wronged witches or heretics (such as Joan or Arc) and you’ll get the idea…

@antony – thanks for your comment… It’s going well – slowly but surely… Hope to make a firm announcement on launch date, etc, in the next month or so.

Ahhhh, so it’s not a Depeche Mode remix but one’s of another singer. Meanwhile I still love this version. While I was watching the video accompanying this remix song, I found it quite appropriate and suitable to this song’s particular sounds. I’ m still wondering as many DM fans, what’s the name of the lady actress casting for this witch throwed into the river by inquisitors priests…. Beautiful video while sad and plain of its sens.
